SWORDS CASTLE MARKET - WARD RIVER VALLEY.

Swords Castle is situated in the centre of the ancient town of Swords about 15 Km north of Dublin City. It is the former residence of the Archbishop of Dublin and it is the only fortified residence of the Archbishop to survive in a reasonable state today. The buildings that make up the castle form a rough pentagon enclosing an area of approximately 0.5 Ha with a perimeter wall of 305 meters. The castle was built over a period of 400 years starting before 1200 AD. The Castle s has been restored by Fingal County Council working with the state training organisation FÁS. and is opening in August for the first time in its new state.
A  Swords Castle leaflet with details of the Castle is available from Fingal County Council Parks Division, County Hall Swords, Co. Dublin. Tel (01) 8400 891 Email: parks@fingalcoco.ie

Swords Castle Market will be a 'medieval' food market with an excellent range of organic foods and associated products, together with a craft and modern jewellery section. The weekly event is expected to draw large numbers of North Side Shoppers, who want to get the best of products, made available as they would have been in the days of 'King Arthur'. Regular stalls will include Denis Healys' Organic delights and Jenny Mcnally's vegetables.
